Elderton 'Command' Shiraz 2001

Quick Overview

97pts – Wine Spectator

93pts - Jeremy Oliver

"Big & powerful, brimming with tarry, spicy black cherry, dark plum, blackberry & chocolate flavors. Rich & gooey like a warm flourless chocolate cake, yet it finds a plush balance that keeps it from veering off into heaviness. This has grace, harmony & refinement, without losing an ounce of power." – Wine Spectator

"I was genuinely surprised by this wine, coming as it does from such a difficult season. It’s more restrained but also more driven by genuinely ripe fruit than recent vintages, with an attractive spread of smoky, lightly meaty flavours of raspberries & plum jam. Look further and you’ll see suggestions of cassis, prunes and currants, with some herbal edges over some charry vanilla oak. It’s very smooth, rich & generous, wrapped in silky tannins. Quite a classy expression of its style, & sure to please many people." - Jeremy Oliver
